At Books on Shelves, we believe the most meaningful endorsement of a story
comes from someone who understands the craft.
The BOS Author Review Programme connects authors with fellow writers in a structured and carefully curated process designed to produce thoughtful, professional, and usable feedback — not just opinion, but endorsement.
This is not an open review forum. It is a considered process, guided by BOS, to ensure every outcome is constructive, credible, and suitable for real-world use.
There are two ways to participate.
Author to Author Exchange Review.
A shared experience
You are paired with another author, usually within a similar or complementary genre.
Each of you reads the other’s work and offers a structured review.
This is a reciprocal exchange — a simple and effective way to gain a credible endorsement while supporting another writer on the same journey.
The cost of this is $150, split into $75 each.
Independent Author Review.
A one-way, curated perspective
For authors who prefer an independent voice, BOS arranges a one-way review from a carefully selected author within our network.
This option eliminates the need for an author who may feel they are not at a stage of their development to critique a novel. Instead, this option offers a focused, objective perspective on your novel.
The review fee is negotiable; the reviewer will propose a fee to the author. BOS will
broker the arrangement and add a $75 management fee to the negotiated amount.
What you receive.
Every BOS Author Review delivers three clear outcomes:
A curated author-to-author review or an independent review.
A thoughtful and considered response from a fellow writer.
A short, quote-ready endorsement
A concise statement suitable for use in promotion, on your book, or across your marketing.
A structured written review (100–150 words)
Professionally refined for clarity and readability, and suitable for websites, newsletters, and broader exposure.
A considered approach
All BOS reviews are curated to ensure they are constructive, professional, and appropriate for public use. The emphasis is on highlighting strengths, identifying audience appeal, and presenting your work in its best light.
We provide the words. You decide how to use them.
Why it matters
Not all reviews carry the same weight. An author’s endorsement reflects not only how your story reads, but how it resonates with someone who understands the discipline of writing. It signals credibility, care, and connection. In a crowded marketplace, that matters.
Part of a larger journey
For many authors, the BOS Author Review Programme is the first step into a wider network — one that may later extend across borders through our BOS Global+ and BOS Global Elite pathways.
The BOS Global Author Exchange Scheme.
Where stories travel. Where authors meet.
At Books on Shelves, we have always believed that a great story deserves more than a single shelf, a single store, or even a single country. It deserves a journey.
The BOS Global Author Exchange is our way of bringing that belief to life. It is not a simple exchange of books. It is a curated movement of authors, stories, and discovery across borders.
Much like an artist whose work finds new audiences in distant galleries, BOS authors are introduced to readers, booksellers, and fellow writers in new parts of the world — places they may never have reached on their own.
A Living, Breathing Gallery.
In the same way that great artists were once discovered by being placed alongside others of promise, the BOS Global Author Exchange creates a shared space for emerging voices.
Think of it as a gallery without walls.
A reader in Melbourne may discover a writer from Christchurch.
A bookseller in Auckland may champion a voice from Texas.
An author in London may find their first loyal readership in Australia.
This is how discovery has always worked. Quietly. Organically. Powerfully.
What It Means for Authors
When you join the BOS Global Author Exchange, your book does more than sit on a shelf. It travels. Authors Supporting Authors. At the heart of the Exchange is a simple but powerful idea:
writers helping writers.
Through the programme, BOS authors are invited to:
And in a world crowded with noise, genuine endorsement still carries extraordinary
weight.
Here's how it works.
1. BOS Global
Placement.
This will be a standard inclusion for all BOS authors, who may choose to showcase their books in another country where BOS operates. You simply agree to the terms of the host country.
The author will send their print file over; the book is printed locally and placed on the shelf of a participating bookstore in your chosen country.
This is the foundation of BOS — real books, in real stores, in front of real readers
somewhere in the world.
2. BOS Global+
Discovery
Your book is not only placed but also introduced. Through the BOS Author Exchange, you are paired with a fellow author in another market. You read each other’s work and provide authentic endorsements, which are used to support your book both in-store and across BOS channels.
BOS Global + Includes everything in BOS Global, plus:
3. BOS Global Elite
Global Reach
Your story moves beyond borders. You are connected with multiple international authors, and your book begins its journey into new languages, with a professionally translated sample prepared for global readers and opportunities.
This is where your work is positioned for the world stage.
BOS Global Author Exchange.
Placing authors into a global conversation.
It' s coming!
How does an author register for the review programme?
It's simple — just go to the author's registration form on the Authors tab and tick the review box. We will handle the rest, add you to our review team, and inform you
when it's done. At the same time, we will flesh out your credentials, so you are match- ready.
Note- For those who have had a professional review background [or similar]
without being published, please contact Christopher Herbert at chris.herbert@sibj.com.au, and we will talk it through.
